Jamaicans are beaming with pride tonight as the TORPEDO
reached the finish
line effortlessly with his fellow Jamaicans Yohan Blake and Warren Weir behind him in second and third respectively.

Usain Bolt definitely made a statement by breaking the record with a 9.58 second finish. With the 200 and 100 metres gold medals he has certainly made Olympic History. Wallace Spearman was one of the hopeful competitors but it was not to be as a surprising but great effort by Warren Weir saw him miss out on the bronze medal and place fourth with a time of 19.90 seconds. Wallace was followed by 5th place Churanda Martina of Netherlands, then 6th place Christophe Lemaitre of France. In 7th place was Ecuador's Quinonez and in 8th Place was Anaso Jobadwana of South Africa.
Interestingly enough, questions have been asked as what makes Jamaican athletes stand out above the rest.
Is it their diet which inclues ackee and saltfish, jerk chicken, and curry goat or a special pre-game regiment that it is alleged takes place before the races?
While watching a video on you tube titled "The secret to the success of Jamaica" I was impressed by the support the Jamaicans gave to their athletes by lining up hours before a sporting event.
They may not be as privileged as the United states of America in terms of sponsorship but both nations have a common factor . The sponsors or the government took time out to genuinely invest time, effort and money into the futures of the athletes who they saw had the drive and determination irrespective of their backgrounds.
I often hear people accuse mainly American athletes of being boastful and commentators are often chastised for focusing all the attention on them whether they win or loose. I look at it from another standpoint . A nation can boast when they have supported, pushed you 100% and praised you for trying your best.
Other nations should realise that America and Chinaweren't always head to head for the top medal count at the Olympics. It took a while.
I was disappointed when one athlete George Bovel of the Caribbean nation Trinidad did not place in the top three and the headline for the Express Newspapers was SORRY NO MEDAL.
Athletes should be celebrated particularly when they are the first to qualify for the final of an event for a country. The feelings of athletes should not be disregarded for ratings or sales even though they did not medal .The next step for any country in this instance should be encouragement. This should be followed by hiring quality coaches and finally upgrading and building world standard training facilities . Then maybe who knows we may see more athletes like Usain Bolt, Gabrielle Douglas, and Zou in all nations that compete in the Olympics.
